Before Choosing Curriculum

Before starting the journey to homeschooling, I remember being overwhelmed about what curriculum to use with my precious little ones.

They are flourishing as avid learners and I want to provide them all the good and advantageous that I can like any parent would do (Matthew 7:11-12).

“If you then, evil as you are [If you, being bad,], know how to give good and advantageous gifts to your children, how much more will your Father Who is in heaven [perfect as He is] give good and advantageous things to those who keep on asking Him! [So always; So in everything] So then, whatever you desire that others would do to and for you, even so do also to and for them, for this is [sums up; is the essence of, the meaning of] the Law and the Prophets [Law, referring to the Torah; and the Prophets, referring to the OT].” (Matthew 7:11-12).

I prayed to the Lord and asked Him what He wants me to teach them, and He asked me some questions: Whose are the children that I sent to you and your husband? For Whom are you raising the children I sent you? What if your son becomes as your husband and your daughter becomes just like you?” Suddenly, what to teach was of minor importance!

My approach has become less about the information and knowledge I provide to my children, and became more about the character of Christ, the persons we are in Christ. I’m more focused on living in a way that honors my Lord.

Every day I must remember that my children watch how I handle situations that arise, and remember to model my behavior. I must focus on what matters to God, and I know that I should focus my thoughts to love and support my precious husband. The best things we parents can give to our children are a good marriage, a good family! With those we will bless their lives more than anything else we could offer, aside from salvation.
